Literally translated in some languages as advertisement or advertising, publicite has grown beyond its first meaning along with the industry which supports it intensely. ‘The art of selling’ is one of the more decent and direct phrase which elaborates on the word publicite. And (hence) also marks the rise of capitalism over other forms of governing and social systems. Publicity is the means to popularity and becomes important as an active agent in the discussion of popular culture vs elite culture as well as the notion of culture itself. The birth of such a phenomenon also indicates the dilution of monarchy or absolute authority as opposed to the rise of freedom to choose (elect) and hence making it a priority to win the crowd.
